Vermont Resorts: Jay Peak Resort
Jay Peak has developed five acres of terrain called Playtime Burton Riglet Park expressly for new snowboarders ages 3 to 12. The concept is to introduce young people to outdoor winter sports and at an early age. Burton has experience in developing Riglet Parks. The concept was invented by Burlington, Vermont native, Jeff Boliba. The riglet is a piece of hardware similar to a reel on the front of a snowboard that allows an instructor to tow young riders, making it easier for them to balance as they learn to snowboard. Jeff apparently made the discovery while towing his own child.
The Jay Peak resort improvements are all part of a master plan that includes an indoor water park, ice arena, convention center and hotel. Jay Peak now owns and operates Burke Mountain Ski Area. Both Vermont Ski areas are located in the Northeast Kingdom.
Burton’s innovative Riglet Park Snowboard Learning Systems can be found at ski slopes throughout the United States and Canada, from coast to coast. In addition to the newest addition at Jay Peak, Vermonters and Vermont visitors can also experience the already established Riglet Park and Treehouse at Smuggler’s Notch Ski Area.
