Known locally as the “Cradle of Inventions” and “Precision Valley”, Springfield, Vermont has produced many notable inventions, including the Breech Loading Gun, the Steam Shovel, the Sheep Shearing Machine, the Corn Planter, and the Common Spring Clothespin. Congratulations Springfield! It’s official Springfield Vermont is the home of Homer Simpson’s family. That means the Vermont town of under 10,000 people will host the Home Town Premier of The Simpson’s Movie.
Springfield Vermont was a last-minute entry in a nationwide competition that saw the Connecticut River Valley town beat out 13 other Springfields across the country. The contest – actually a clever 20th Century Fox promotion for their new Simpson’s movie, prompted The Simpson’s fans to create videos demonstrating their enthusiasm for The Simpson’s. Springfield, Vt., received 15,367 votes. Springfield, Ill., came in second with 14,634 votes and Springfield, Ore., was third with under 14,000 votes.
Springfield Vermont’s Regional Chamber of Commerce Vice-President Patricia Chaffee was quoted as saying, “We’re so excited. We came in at the last minute, and for us to win, we feel like the underdogs, which makes this so big and so great for us.” Springfield Vermont will become Simpsons central on July 21, 2007. Vermont’s Governor Jim Douglas added, ” to all other Springfields, I say don’t have a cow man”.
