The State of Vermont also maintains a toll-free telephone number for drivers seeking road and traffic conditions. The web site and phone service can help you locate weather-related road conditions, traffic delays, road construction zones, and accidents. The site and phone service are part of a national effort. VT Trans, Vermont Department of Transportation, Vermont Road Conditions, ICY ROADThe toll-free phone number is 1-800-ICY-ROAD. You may also access this information via your cell phone by dialing 511. Access the current web-based road reports here.

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has designated “511” as the national traveler information phone number and VTrans is one of a handful of state Department of Transportation to implement the service.

The service is provided free of charge to the public. Cell phone users will pay for normal airtime and roaming charges according to their wireless service contracts.
