Barnard is a quiet, picturesque Vermont town located just north of Woodstock, Vermont. Originally spelled “Bernard” the town was named after Sir Frances Bernard, a former Governor of the New Jersey Colony and the Massachusetts Bay Colony. Bernard was the second listed grantee of the town. The spellling change to Barnard was made sometime before 1810 for reasons unclear.
