Proctor VT Lodging, Real Estate, Travel & Visitor Information

Proctor VTSouth Central Vermont community ProctorFull of rich history and beautiful marble architecture, the Town of Proctor was founded when the first white man visited Sutherland Falls in 1730. The town was named after its founder, Redfield Proctor, and was incorporated in 1884. Comprised of ten square miles of rolling hills of farmland, Proctor is just northwest of Rutland and northeast of West Rutland. In the 1800s, Proctor was home to the Vermont Marble Company, where tens of thousands of tons of white marble were quarried. Home to the famous Wilson Castle, an authentic 19th-century English castle (and the popular Vermont Marble Museum), the town is a favorite stop with tourists. Vermont Marble’s Hydroelectric Dam facility still generates power for the OMYA facilities in Proctor. Proctor’s main road, Route 3, makes for a beautiful drive in the autumn when the leaves are turning. Start your drive from the southern end at the intersection with Route 4A. Follow the road north through the Town of Proctor, and be sure to take a left into town and explore the marble architecture. Stop and enjoy the Vermont Marble Museum and take a tour of Wilson Castle. If you continue on Route 3, it will bring you to Pittsford on Route 7- from which you can continue exploring Vermont. Local industries include: OMYA Industries, Vermont Marble Company’s Electric Division, and Proctor Gas.
