Averill VTNortheast Kingdom community AverillAverill, Vermont is an unincorporated town in Essex County. Although one of the earliest New Hampshire Grants, Averill was never really settled. Located here is Great Averill Pond and Small Averill Pond. Averill is known for many moose in the area, drive carefully. This town borders Quebec and is the home of Quimby Country – a well known sporting and vacation camp on Forest Lake. The town is named after Samuel Averill who received a grant from Benning Wentworth. Averill was a successful businessman and land speculator. Averill’s population reached its peak at 48 in 1880. Today, Averill is one of the few Vermont towns that does not have a post office located in the town. The Averill Post Office is actually located in nearby Norton. Lumbering, hunting, fishing, and snowmobiling are popular activities in this rural region of northeastern Vermont. Averill contains two lakes – Big Averill Lake and Little Averill Lake. The Averill Lakes are popular fishing destinations.
