Three men perish in fire that destroys historic building
It was a bitter cold January night when the alarm sounded at the St. Johnsbury fire station. Firefighters did have to travel far to reach the blaze, just several blocks from Main Street, on Railroad Street in the heart of downtown St. Johnsbury. Vermont.
The heat of the fire was intense and the heroic efforts of the St. Johnsbury Fire Department, were in vain. The historic Daniels Building was a total loss. This tragic fire claimed three lives and changed the face of the Northeast Kingdom's most populous town.
Saint Johnsbury, Vermont (also known as; St. Jay) is a resilient community and has experienced devastating fires in the past. The town is already busy planning for reconstruction and looking to the future. A moment prayer for the three men whose lives were lost in the blaze. A sincere thanks to the Saint Johnsbury Fire Department, who risked their lives fighting this horrible fire.
