Nestled in between the foothills of the Green and Taconic Mountain Ranges lies Poultney, Vermont. Founded in 1761, the town consists of East Poultney and the Village of Poultney - home to Horace Greeley, founder of the New York Herald, and his co-worker, George Jones, founder of the New York Times. The town covers 50 square miles of gently rolling pastures and forest, and shares a border with Hampton, New York.
One-third of Lake St. Catherine is located within the town limits, a great place for fishing, boating, and home to one of Vermont's greatest golf courses.
Poultney's Main Street is home to many shops, making the picturesque village a great stop on any trip. On the first Saturday in June, Main Street really comes alive with the Poultney Town-Wide Yard Sale. Sidewalk sales, vendors, entertainment, and bargains galore make this an event you do not want to miss.
Points of interest are: Green Mountain College, the historic East Poultney Green, and the Poultney River for fishing and swimming. Local manufacturers include Ideal Horizons (a manufacturer of water filtration systems) and several companies in the slate industry.
