The town of Northfield is comprised of Northfield, Northfield Falls, Northfield Center, and South Northfield. Norwich University - the nation's oldest private military college is located here.
Northfield is picturesque village located near Montpelier, Barre, and just "over the mountain pass" from the popular Sugarbush ski area. The town was once home to Charles Paine, a former Vermont governor and a builder of the Central Vermont Railroad.
Northfield is home to several historic churches, and five scenic covered bridges. Special events such as the Vermont Quilt Festival, the Labor Day Observances-featuring the largest parade in the state, the Cabot Hosiery Sock Sale, and Ellie's Farm Market Jack-o-lantern show are held here annually.
