Chester, Vermont town center

Chester, Vermont is located in Windsor country. Chester was originally a farming and transportation community serving as a rail hub for the region. But, as farms mechanized and trains gave way to trucks, Chester has become a residential community with some farming and environmentally-friendly light manufacturing.

Chester has many comfortable and congenial inns, fine restaurants, service oriented shops, and cultural events. The town has more recently developed a tourist industry by maintaining the elegance and charm of a Victorian village and rural countryside, attracting visitors from around the globe. The town has kept a sense of community with well managed town services, quality businesses, and many active churches, clubs, and civic organizations.

Chester was originally called Flamstead, one of the first towns to declare independence from the British, and is home to manufacturers such as Microcut Laser, Vermont Forgings, The National Survey, Inc., Newsbank/Readex, Freedom Publications, and Conrad Delia Chairs.
