Bakersfield is the home of Peter Bent Brigham, the founder of the famous Boston Hospital, named after himself. The town was orginally called "Knoultons Gore" - after Luke Knowlton (Knoulton) of Newfane. Knowlton sold the town in the late 1700's to Joesph Baker of Westboro, Massachusetts.
