To ride on the VAST maintained trail system in Vermont, your snowmobile must be legally registered in Vermont or any other state or province and you must purchase a TMA (Trail Maintenance Assessment / Trail Pass) from a VAST member snowmobile club.
VAST recognizes all valid U.S. state and Canadian provincial registrations. The cost to register your sled in Vermont is $15 for a Vermont resident, $22 for a non-resident (only if registered in other state or province.) and $2 to transfer a registration if your machine has been sold or traded-in. These cost are subject to change - check with a local agent or snowmobile club.
A TMA (snowmobile trail pass) can only be purchased from a snowmobile club's membership chairperson or from a local business that has been contracted to sell TMA's for the club.
VAST also has additional requirements for "junior" snowmobile riders. Anyone under the age of 16 who will be operating a snowmobile on the VAST trail system, must complete a Snowmobile Safety Course recognized by Vermont. The must also be supervised, at all times, by an adult at least 18 years old.
Any person who intend to ride the VAST trail system must join a snowmobile club. There are more than 145 clubs to choose from and they are located throughout Vermont. Elected officers from each club attend the VAST Annual Meeting. Membership fees vary but are included in the cost of your TMA.
