One of the most enjoyable things about snowmobiling in this far northeastern corner of Vermont is the selection on great lodging and dining right on the trail. This is snowmobile country - and many establishments cater to the snowmobiler in this area. Many country stores, like Marty's in Danville, allow the snowmobiler easy access to the trails, a place to re-fuel, a heated restroom, a well supplied country store, and some store cooked meals, sandwiches, and subs. The many lakes in the Northeast Kingdom can offer straight-away sledding, but check with local authorities before venturing out. Underwater springs or river inlets sometimes prevent safe snowmobile passage even in sub-zero temperatures. Any person who intends to ride on the VAST snowmobile trail system must join a Vermont snowmobile club or rent a snowmobile locally.
There are several places that rent snowmobiles in the Northeast Kingdom; All Around Power in St. Johnsbury, and Kingdom Cat in Island Pond for two. Check out our Vermont snowmobile dealers section for more information.
There are over 145 clubs in Vermont to choose from and they are located throughout the state. Once you join a club, you may use any of the snowmobile trails located throughout Vermont. Each Snowmobile club holds monthly meetings, work bees, charity events, and club events. Club Officers are elected and delegates are sent to the VAST Annual Meeting. Snowmobile Club Membership fees vary from club to club but usually range from $5 to $25 a year. These fees are included in the cost of your TMA. Your dues and registration fees support VAST's extensive snowmobile trail grooming, maintenance and development of new snowmobile trails.
