Haystack Ski Area began in the sixties, just after the musical "British Invasion." This southern Vermont ski area opened with the motto "Ski Haystack Before Everyone Else Does." The old base lodge, which has since been demolished, once featured a funky, wine and cheese shop and cocktail lounge. Haystack was perhaps best known as Mt. Snow's sister ski area. Mount Snow owned and operated Haystack Mountain for several years. They share the same mountain range which is located just west of Route 100 in West Dover, Vermont.
Haystack Mountain is now owned by the Haystack Club whose founder, Bob Foisie, is creating a community of private homes and condos.
