Lay of Today's Minstrel

Come, David, my son, bring your guitar
And sing me a song of day's gone by,

Of gallant knights and maidens fair,
Of kings and queens and poison cups,
Of evil men and good men too,
Of wizards who foretold the day,
Of men on the trail of the holy grail,
Of golden haired maidens, pure and frail,
          Who wept and prayed
          As the band rode on to
          The Holy Land,

Or would you rather sing a song
Of computers that sway the world today,
Of men on Mars who count the stars,
Of doctors who say take this pill each day,
It surely will take your ills away,
Of teachers who swear that two and two are four
When we really know
That two and two are twenty-two
Of preachers who say there is a God above
Who will forgive your sins if you confess,
Of Satan who says confession is not enough,
You must be punished everyday by   wars and plagues,
And volcanoes that burn the land away,
And mountainous waves that sink your ships,
And if that is not enough, The HOLOCAUST.

My hope is that you will find
A song that better suites your mind.
Now, David, lay down your guitar,
And I will sing you a song
Of love and romance
