Quiet
I sit in my chair at the window
And gaze in silent rapture
At the small park across the street.
It is winter, and the leafless trees,
So tall and stately, have gone to sleep.
Fat snowflakes dance in the breeze
And light on the ground without a sound.
And yet there is soundless music in the air.
The birds have flown to their southern nests.
I know they'll be back in the spring
To wake the trees from their winter sleep.
Even the insects have burrowed deep.
Quiet, so quiet. There's no one around.
Would that the rest of the world
Could share this peace.
