Bandstand Park

At the darkest hour of the night,
When needed sleep eluded me,
And unhappy memories kept 
me tearfully awake;
A tiny voice whispered in my ear,
"Rise and go to your door,
Look outside and you will see a scene
to delight your eyes,
And dry your tears."

Then, indeed, I did behold a full,
Bright, moon in a cloudless sky,
Stars twinkling like fairy lights,
The Man in the Moon smiled down at me,
The tall trees bedecked in snow stood guard to ward off evil from the Park.

All was still,
And on the Park's frozen ground,
A number of slim, black-clad boys
skated to and fro, back and forth,
Round and round they went,
Some in pairs and
Others singly,
Like dancers on a stage.

Was I in  'never-never land?'

Enchanted I returned to dreamless slumber in my bed,
Misery had fled.
There was magic in the air that moonlit night.
