Year Ten

Time has shown your truest heart

With layers of depth and care

An intricate web of compassion

Woven beyond my share

Some detours have been frightening

The arrivals have somehow made sense

When I would finally allow my eyes

A view from your side of the fence

It takes more than a moment to know you

To see your intention in kind

But that's a journey worth making

For the jewels I am seeking I find

Thank you for making my sunsets

Look like art amidst life's lendings

You knew they were temporary landscapes

When I could only see them as endings

Still so much I can learn from you

I probe with a student's intent

Remain my teacher and stay with me

Still a version of me to invent

We worked so hard yet we fell into place

We combined as a score divine

And onward we travel together

I'm yours, and my love, you are mine

It's easy to tell the love I have

That spills about our life

Comes in every shade of light

Every hue of man and wife

There's always a horizon

Where a steady gaze can land

And know the ground is safe and true

Be it rough terrain or sand

And yet I fly above the stars

With faith that I'll not fall

The wind of our loving life

Carries me, heart and all

I never question where you stand

My soul has found its mate

For every moment here on earth

Till we meet at Heaven's gate

You belong here in my heart

Your welcome never wanes

Because in all the losses

My heart records the gains

Never lose these moments

They knit together 'we'

And 'we' is all I want
