The Northeast Kingdom region of Vermont has long attracted naturalists, artists, writers, and poets that are drawn to the areas solitude, slower-pace, and natural beauty. The "Northeast Kingdom of Vermont" is comprised of Caledonia, Orleans, and Essex counties.
This rural region of northeastern Vermont is often called "the real Vermont". Much of this area has retained its rich heritage of farming and wood harvesting. The Northeast Kingdom is also a sportmens paradise - thousands of hunters, fisherman and outdoors enthusiasts visit the "Kingdom's" lakes, forests, rivers and trout ponds. There is much to love about this rural region of the northeast. There are more than 2,053 square miles in the Kingdom, over 1,313,700 acres of land, more than 50 public boat launches, and miles of snowmobile trails. "The Kingdom" offers superb outdoor recreation and interesting and historical attractions. You'll find great skiing at Jay Peak and Burke Mountain, outstanding golfing courses, dozens of trout-filled ponds and lakes, and miles of hiking trails.
