The Addison County Independent was established in 1946, taking over the Middlebury Register, which was founded in 1831. Although originally published weekly, the Addison County Independent began publishing twice-weekly in 1987 in the County Seat of Addison. This newspaper is part of the Champlain Valley Newspaper Group.
