Vermont Historical Societies State of Vermont - Historical Societies
Vermont historical societies preserve the history of their town or region as well as the history of the state of Vermont. Towns throughout the Green Mountain State are filled with interesting histories that they wish to share and save for future generations. Many historical societies keep geneology records for their town, for those who are interested. Historical societies are also sometimes given the task of maintaining historic sites so that people may be able to visit for years to come. Historic societies throughout Vermont have museums that they upkeep. Usually these museums concentrate on the town in which they are located. Occassionally an historical society museum will focus on a certain business, person, or time period which had a great affect upon the development of the region.
