St. Anne's Shrine
The Site Of French Fort St. Anne |
Imagine driving along with beautiful Lake Champlain on either side as far as the eye can see. This is what awaits you in the islands of Lake Champlain. The drive alone to reach Isle La Motte, among the many other beautiful places on the islands, is worth the tri
p.
What is so special about Isle La Motte specifically is that this small town is the location of St. Anne's Shrine. This shrine is a Catholic church where the attendees get to sit outside and enjoy the beauty of Vermont. This is able to happen because the altar itself is surrounded on three sides by walls. There is also a roof where the people can sit and be out of direct sunlight during mass. Tarp walls can be brought down in case of inclement weather.
St. Anne's Shrine is not the only offering here. This is also the site of the French Fort St. Anne, Vermont's oldest settlement. There is a charming memorial that visitors can walk through and read up on some local history as well as a statue to Samuel De Champlain.

A lovely beach with a small dock
is ready and waiting for swimmers, there is no lifeguard so it's swim at your own risk. While barbeque areas are available for use there is also a cafeteria on site. For the out-of-doors types there is an area for camping where tents can be set up.
If you're looking for a great place in Vermont to go fro a drive, spend a day or your entire vacation, Isle La Motte Vermont on the islands of Lake Champlain is an ideal location.
